Obituary

Raymond Robert Bunk III was born on May 30, 1972, in Rockford, Illinois, to Walter and Mary (Nordstrom) Bunk. He passed away December 17, 2023, in Bonney Lake, Washington. He is survived by his wife, Angee (Iyall) Bunk; daughter, Adriana Guzman; brothers Chris (Diane) and Matt (Candy) Bunk; and nieces and nephews Dan, Matthew, Paul Thomas, Krystal, Chris, and Tony. Ray was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Danielle Erskine and Felicia Alfredson.

Raymond graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Rockford, IL. He continued his education at Western Illinois University and earned an MBA at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, WA. Raymond joined the United States Air Force in 1996 and was stationed at McChord Air Force Base in Washington State. He served four years of active duty and then rejoined as a reservist for an additional 19 years. Raymond retired as Senior Master Sergeant in May 2020. For most of his tenure, Raymond served in the fire service earning several awards such as 62d Wing Airman of the Year, AMC Military Firefighter of the Year, and AFSA First Term Airman of the Year. He had two deployments to Egypt and Iraq. He finished his military career as a Postal NCO.

In 2002, Raymond became a police officer with the City of Federal Way. He retired in 2023 after 21 years of service. He served in the roles of Officer, Field Training Officer, Public Information Officer, Lieutenant, and Commander. He played a huge role on the Peer Support Team and Civil Disturbance Unit. In his "spare" time, Raymond served as a Fire Commissioner, Civil Service Commissioner, and business partner in a small distillery for several years.

Since his retirement in June, Raymond volunteered to walk dogs at the Humane Society, started guitar lessons, went fishing, and earned a certification in auctioneering. Raymond was best known for his sense of humor and endless "dad" jokes. Countless tributes have come in recounting his satire but also his ability to positively impact everyone he encountered.

Raymond had a love for travel and sports. He and his wife, Angee, traveled to 32 countries together and last year, they fulfilled a bucket list item by traveling to Antarctica. Together, they were season ticket holders for the Seattle Kraken, Seahawks, Sounders, Seawolves, and the Lakewood Playhouse. But Raymond's all-time favorite was Notre Dame football – Go Irish!

Funeral services will be held on January 4th at Tony Gasparini Funerals at 6825 Weaver Rd, Rockford, IL. Viewing will be from 9-10am and the service will begin at 10am. He will then be buried at Calvary Cemetery at 8616 W State Rd, Winnebago, IL.
