On October 19, 2026, Marvin Arruda passed away from frontotemporal degeneration (FTD) at the age of 74.
Marvin was born July 23, 1952 in Waimea, Kauai, HI. He was adopted as a young child by his aunt & uncle, Clarence & Puanani Arruda.
Marvin's father served in the US Army when he was ultimately transferred to Fort Lewis, WA in about 1964. Marvin graduated from Lakes High School in Lakewood, WA in 1970.
After high school, Marvin worked a short time at Lerner's Department Store where he dressed mannequins. He then switched careers & went on to learn the drywall trade through Lakes Drywall. Marvin started a drywall business partnership in 1978. In later years he then went on to form his own drywall business where he taught his son, Chris, the drywall business as well.
Marvin's retirement from drywall began in 2015 where he then transitioned to maintenance work at Archbishop Brunett Retreat Center at The Palisades in Federal Way. He was honored to be a part of this retreat center, but sadly had to quit due to his illness.
Marvin married Gayle Russell on August 23, 1975, then moved to Edgewood, WA. Marvin & Gayle welcomed two children, Christopher & Maile. During these early years, Marvin ran a very successful business, but was still active in coaching various sports with both kids' teams & encourages their kids to learn martial arts by way of Tae Kwon Do. Marvin ultimately went on to become a 3rd degree black belt & taught many others as an instructor at Ho Rang Yi Tae Kwon Do in Puyallup.
Marvin enjoyed many activities including drag racing, BMX racing, basketball, snow skiing, Tai Chi, snowmobiling, paddleboarding, clam digging, dancing at the Eagles, & vacationing with his wife in Mexico.
Marvin was a respected & active member at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Sumner, WA where he served as a Eucharist minister, was on the parish council, a member of the Knights of Columbus, & many other church functions.
Marvin is survived by his wife of 51 years, Gayle Arruda, son Christopher Arruda, daughter Maile Arruda, grandson Ethan Arruda, and sister Verna Chinen.
The family would like to express out gratitude to the staff of Mountains View Adult Care Home in Sumner, WA. Your loving care will not be forgotten. You are God's angels on earth.
