Joanne Marie
Brewer
July 16, 1934 – August 29, 2024
Joanne M. Brewer passed away peacefully on August 29, 2024 at the age of 90 at the Life Care Center on South Hill in Puyallup, WA. She had struggled with Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia over that last several years, but was able to live in her house up until early August.
Joanne was born on July 16, 1934 in Tacoma, WA to Ray and Frances Bock and grew up in Sumner with her parents and sister Janet. After graduating from Sumner High School in 1952, Joanne attended the University of Washington and met her future husband Barry Brewer. They were married on June 2, 1956 and were happily married until Barry's passing in 2013.
Joanne was a loving mother of 4 boys, who provided her with full time employment (with overtime) as a homemaker. She was also a talented artist and loved painting and drawing portraits... in addition to some toll painting and working with stained glass. She also won awards and ribbons whenever she entered her work in art shows. Joanne also helped with some of the design work for the Sumner floats entered in the Daffodil Parades in the 1970s.
Joanne and Barry were also huge Husky football fans and had season tickets for 50+ years. They travelled to a couple Rose Bowls in the early 1990s. Another love was traveling the country in their motorhome. In 1999, while travelling in their RV visiting friends in Mesa, AZ, they decided to buy a place down there in a retirement community and spent winters there thru 2011.
Joanne loved getting together with her sons and their families, and also her many friends. She also enjoyed annual reunions with her high school classmates and reunions with her cousins. Joanne is survived by her 4 sons - Brian, Brad (Kim), Bruce and Brent, along with five grandchildren and eight great- grandchildren.
Joanne was a lifelong active member of the Sumner United Methodist Church, where she was confirmed in 1946. In lieu of flowers, any donations can be made to the Sumner United Methodist Church.
A Celebration of Life Memorial service will be at 10am on Saturday Sept 21 at the Sumner United Methodist Church at 901 Wood Ave in Sumner.
