Inger Mikkelsen of Yelm/Tacoma passed away on June 26, 2026. She was born in Aarhus, Denmark and immigrated to the U.S. as a young child. She had been cared for by Claire Bridge Memory Care and Eden Hospice.

She is survived by her partner of 41 years, Lilly Aguilar and her two sisters Tove Ness of Battleground, WA and Kirsten Matson of Tacoma, WA. Her surviving family members include; nieces Linda (Joe) and Diane (Peter); nephews Todd (Rene), Troy, and Jim; great nieces Lindsay (Chris), Savanah, and Isabella; great nephew Trevor, great-great grandniece Cora and her partner's daughter Victoria (Keith) and son Maximo; grandchildren Simon (Rachel), Andrew, Victoria and Ashley, and great grandson Cade.

She was preceded in death by her parents Gunild and Ludvig Eskildsen, and her sister Anemarie Shah.

She was a loving, feisty, and extremely independent woman. She cared deeply about children and prior to retirement, worked as Child Protective Services Worker and at times as a phlebotomist. She loved animals and throughout her life had various dogs and cats. She also liked to travel and very much enjoyed the great outdoors, tending plants and walking among trees and the desert. She was a longtime activist of all human rights and co-founder of the Seattle LRC.

Donations on her behalf to PETA or a local shelter would be appreciated.

A celebration of life is being planned and will be announced once arrangements are completed.
